Hawaii and its beauty

By Jonathan Rekli

Why is it that many people think of Hawaii as the perfect location both for a vacation and to reside in?

The first part of your money-saving Hawaiian vacation plan to tackle is the time of the year. There are definitely peak seasons to Hawaiian travel. If you choose to travel during off-peak time, you'll avoid the crowds and can also save on airfare and other travel related expenses. Mid-April to mid-June and mid-September to mid-November are the best seasons pricewise.

Get a taste of Hawaiian culture! A Hawaiian experience is never complete without attending a Polynesian Luau. It is a showcase of Hawaiian cuisine and culture through a feast of food and entertainment. The usual native dishes served are the kalua pork and teriyaki. You will also be delighted by the native entertainment- traditional Polynesian music, fire dancers and hula dancers in grass skirts.

If you want to see whales up-close, go to the Big Island between the months of December and April. Some areas of the coast attract humpback whales after their migration in the cold regions. The island is also home for other species like killer whales and sperm whales. If you want to see dolphins instead, you can visit Oahu Island during the first week of May as plenty of dolphins draw together off the coast.

Your Hawaiian vacation's price tag will be largely composed of your airfare. Once you've decided on a time of year when you'll go, start keeping tabs on airfare immediately. You should sign up with one or more online airline ticket sellers to be notified when there is a good price for your tickets. The earlier you book the tickets, the better.

If you have ever watched the sunrise in the wee hours of the morning on the top of Mount Haleakala over on the island of Maui, or even watched the sunset while on the west coach of any of the islands while you are being extra careful not to blink for fear of missing the elusive green flash, you know that these events are truly breathtaking. However, if you are able to see them just about everyday, you may take them for granted.

As great and majestic as New York City is, nothing is really as spectacular as a Hawaiian sunrise or sunset. If you have ever had the chance to lie on the beach in the evening after a day of surfing, and gaze into the sky as the sun appears to sink beneath the ocean, you know my sentiments exactly.

Honolulu city lights do not quite match up to the city light of Las Vegas or Times Square, but Downtown Honolulu has a city-like atmosphere nonetheless. The wonderful thing about living on Oahu is having the city and the country so close together that it is like having your cake and eating it too. When I get tired of the city and the hustle and bustle of town, old Haleiwa town is just a couple of hours away where I can relax and enjoy a slower pace as I gather my thoughts at the beach.

Those were just a few of the countless things that I have come to appreciate about Hawaii. It is interesting when you are able to gain a different perspective of your normal and routine life. It really does not matter if you live in Hawaii or Hong Kong; there is much to be appreciated about the different places that we each call home. I now fully believe in taking time to smell the coffee, so to speak, so that I never take for granted the wonderful things about the place that I call home.

Hawaii is an island paradise that everyone should experience at least once. Unfortunately, because of the small size of the islands and the booming tourism, it can certainly be one of the pricier vacation destinations.
