Get Rid of Mildew From Your Hot Tub Cover

By Matthew Giovanisci

How many of you keep your hot tub outside? If you do, then I bet you have a hot tub cover that gets full of water and becomes heavy and has a terrible mildew smell. The reason this happens is rain and condensation from your hot tub saturate the cover.

Here are a few steps to get rid of the mildew smell on your hot tub cover.

1. Pick a nice dry sunny day and take your spa cover off and set it up on a flat surface like a tent. Make your cover look like this ^.

2. Most hot tub covers have zippers. If your hot tub cover does then unzipper them and let the foam inside dry out in the sun.

3. There are a lot of cleaners out there to help you get rid of that mildew smell. I recommend you use Lysol spray, it kill 99.9 percent of germs!

4. Keep your cover out like this for a while. The longer the better.

Quick Tip: If you make this a routine, maybe every month or so, your hot tub cover will feel like new. Also look into getting a spa cover cleaner that will protect against UV rays and sun damage.

Quick Tip #2: Want to make your cover last even longer? Get a tarp to cover your entire spa when it rains. This will protect it from getting soaked and water logged.
