Cheap Car Insurance -- Overlooked Savings Tips

By Chimezirim Odimba

Are you interested in cheap auto insurance? Here are overlooked savings tips...

1. You will get discounts with many insurance providers if you're part of an auto club. Don't allow the smallness of the discount this may get you stop you from taking advantage of it if such a club suits you.

2. Being part of associations, especially the big ones, will get you discounts on your auto insurance. Insurers give these associations group discounts in the hope that they will in that one move attract many of their members to buy an auto insurance policy with them. So check, one of those associations might have discounts you can take advantage of.

3. You can get a considerable discount if your child does not use the car for a considerable period because he/she is away at school. If this applies to your child in college then do not fail to let your agent know about it. Just note that not all insurers offer this discount.

4. Certain vehicles are very expensive to insure. So have this at the back of your mind when you shop for your next vehicle. Avoid any car that has a high theft rate and/or a poor crash rating.

Furthermore, it will also cost you more if a car costs a lot to maintain or repair. This is my personal opinion; but it does make sense to buy a comparable car that is more insurance-friendly.

5. You should get a discount if you are a member of a car pool. This is since carpooling reduces mileage (which is a strong factor that determines your rate). You'll pay less in direct proportion to how much carpooling reduces your total mileage.

6. If you work for a large company you could enjoy a group discount. Group discounts are given by insurance companies as an incentive to members of an association to buy policies from them.

7. Those who live in crowded areas are more likely to have one form of car accident or another when compared to people who live in rural sparsely populated areas. It makes sense to live in a less congested area if it fits your circumstance because the risk of vandalism, theft or collision is far less.

8. You might be able to bring down your rate if you take time to review your policy from time to time. The simple reason for this is that things about us change often without us taking serious note of them. How many people, for example, remember to remove their daughters from their policies immediately they get married?

Does it occur to you that you might now be eligible for certain discounts due to certain changes in your life? You might as well have "outgrown" the need for certain coverage types. Therefore, don't fail to go through your policy from time to time. You might see a few things that are no longer necessary and save as you drop them.

9. Do your best to always make sure your policy never lapses. Those who let that happen to them get more expensive rates for a long time. This happens to some individuals while they are about changing over to another insurance carrier.

Don't terminate your previous policy until the new one is in place and you'll avoid this costly mistake. As simple as this may seem, a lot of individuals are bearing the pain of higher rates because of just a little negligence.

10. Do you know that you might be losing money if you have a car that you've not used for months? Do you have a broken car? Is this car still on your auto insurance policy or have you removed it?

The painful reality is that more people than you could imagine are paying higher rates than they should because of such negligence. I hope this is not the case with you.

11. You will save a lot of dollars by visiting a minimum of five quotes sites. That way, you will be able to get the lowest quotes possible since five sites will return up to 25 quotes altogether.
