Forgetting About Your Grout

By Rick Amorey

It is very easy to neglect grout, and I for one can vouch for that. While everyone wants to keep their house clean and presentable, the very notion of cleaning a space so little is foreign to us. As long as the tiles themselves are clean, right? It doesn't matter if it darkens; it may even add some color if your tiles match it.

Scrubbing off the grout that's between your tiles is no small matter. When you start ignoring it, like all neglected areas, it will just become dirtier and dirtier. Unfortunately, this may lead to sickness. Particularly, a fungus known as black mold may lead to sickness. It breeds in area where grout is dirty.

Worse, grout happens to be a type of porous cement, meaning it has small holes and cracks where harmful organisms and moisture may get into. If you have ever tried scrubbing grout that has been neglected for some time, you'll notice it won't get cleaner no matter how hard you scrub. That's because the black mold has seeped below the surface.

If this is the state of the grout in your home, then I will advise that it's a good idea to contact professional grout cleaners to handle the problem immediately. These professionals are able to get rid of even the most obstinate grout with their high-tech tools and equipment, and do it in good time, too. All you have to do is wait for a couple of hours. You don't even have to call on them often, just a couple of times a year is enough.

Even if it seems that your neglect has caused your grout to be hopeless even by the high-tech ministrations of professional cleaners, do not despair. Grout cleaners also do re-grouting services, which will still let you keep your old tiles. A new batch of grout will be installed and you can have new grout. This time, be sure to not neglect it.
